Alejandra was
born on April 29, 1936 in Argentina and she died on September 25, 1972 in the
same country.
She had a
difficult childhood because she suffered problems from a marked stutter, acne
and self-esteem issues. These facts seriously caused his self-esteem to be low. Because to her negative body image and her constant comparisons with her sister, Alejandra's life became even more complicated. It is
possible that she began to take amphetamines, the same drugs that she became
strongly addicted to, which caused long periods of sleeping disorders such as
euphoria and insomnia.
During her
youth Alejandra began to recognize herself as a different being, thus
integrating into her chaotic and unstable character her need to be recognized
by others. Later, during adolescence, she was characterized as a rebel, a quirky and subversive young woman in front of the image of the adolescent of
the 50s, causing Alejandra to become the "weird girl" of the school.
At this time he began his taste for literature reading about existentialism and
surrealism. In 1954, after attending high school, and with great doubts, she
entered the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires, but finally, she abandoned all formal studies to devote herself fully to the task
of writing.
Her style
is recognized for her indignation and the need to be recognized with
continuous questions like What am I guilty of? Why this eternal suffering?
What did I do to receive so much hard and bad blow? But For Pizarnik, writing
not only represented recognition but also the possibility of venting, of
manifesting that sensitivity that she possessed.
In 1960 Alejandra Pizarnik traveled to Paris, a city in which she developed as a translator and reader of French writers. Paris was for the poetess a literary and emotional refuge. However, the fusion between life and poetry of Pizarnik encouraged the depressive crises and the anxiety problems that she had and ended up taking her own life by ingesting 50 pills of Seconal.
